Excerpt: IRS Employee Pled Guilty to Anti-Muslim Hate Crime: In September 2001, subsequent to the terrorist acts at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, the FBI reported to TIGTA that an IRS employee was a suspect in a federal civil rights investigation concerning an anti-Muslim hate crime. It was alleged that the IRS employee vandalized an automobile. The FBI and a local police department substantiated the initial allegation, as well as additional violations of law. In November 2001, the IRS employee was charged with two counts of racial and religious harassment, one count of malicious destruction of property, one count of theft and one count of breaking and entering. In January 2002, the IRS employee pled guilty to one count of malicious destruction of property.
